Early this morning, the Marine Resource Council’s hotline rang with a whale sighting from Ormond Beach. Responding, we found a mother and calf just south of Grenada Blvd. The pair was about three-quarters of a mile offshore and rather quiet, barely showing themselves and moving very little. We were fortunate to have access to an 11th flo
or condo for photos since they were very difficult to see from lower elevations. We stayed for over an hour, but the whales showed no inclination to move any closer for better pictures. This is the best of the morning and it was good enough to tell us that she was female #3157 and her calf, who we sighted previously on 13 and 14 January.
